Although I know the readership of this blog is limited in scope, I don’t feel right leaving it unattended. So…since I’m having trouble posting audio of my messages…I’ve decided to post the manuscripts instead. Admittedly, it’s not quite the solution I had hoped for, but for the present it will have to do.
Now I need to offer a couple ‘disclaimers’ about my sermon manuscripts. I have not been in the habit of writing them with ‘public consumption’ in mind. As a result, the citing of sources is not always as thorough as it could be. I do attempt to footnote any direct quotes or passages in which I’ve made direct use of someone else’s idea. However, as I’m sure many pastor’s do, I’ve got all sorts of random ideas floating around my head that I’ve picked up from books I’ve read and so on…and it’s not always possible for me to remember the specific resource from which an idea originated.
As 2009 gets started, I’m sharing with my congregation a short series of messages organized around the theme, “Letters to the Next President.”This idea and title originated with Andy Stanley of Northpoint Church. In fact, in weeks two and three of the series I’m utilizing the same biblical texts (albeit with my own development). For the first week, a lot of my thinking was shaped by Brian McLaren’s book, “Everything Must Change.” So…if you’re interested in perusing them…here they are:
Alex,
While trying to determine how to begin my day this morning, I found the link to “ruralrev” and decided to have a look. Given the timing, “Letters to the Next President” seemed a good place to start, so I began by reading “Who Gets to Narrate the World.”
To say that I am impressed, moved and inspired seems inadequate, and yet I find myself without the right words to express how your message spoke to me. I do know that in the hectic pace that is my life at the moment, I cannot think of a better way to begin my day and head out into the chaos with a better perspective on where my focus should be.
You’ve a real gift of communicating and making clear how messages and teachings of old relate to and should guide us in today’s issues. Well done and thank you!
Thanks, Wendy, for the positive affirmation. I know that the material I post here is rarely seen by others. So it warms my heart to think that someone actually took the time to read it…and felt that it communicated something worthwhile to top it off! Thanks!
By the way, I have a nephew that works at Northpoint Church. He does audio visual work for them.
We lived in Altanta for 5 1/2 years, but never made it to Northpoint — it’s huge! Have you been?
