In the Office: “Heirs” to You

1john31How are you feeling as you start this new week? Perhaps, like me, you’re aware of all the things that need to be done in the coming days; and you’re hoping you can find the time and the energy to squeeze it all in. But are you also aware – that in Christ – you are an heir to the kingdom of God, with access to riches of patience and power and faithful love that are more than able to sustain you through anything youface?

In today’s Daily Office from the Book of Common Prayer, the apostle Paul offers this encouraging reminder:

“When the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:4-7)

So here’s my prayer. May you start this new week secure in your “delightful inheritance” (see Psalm 16:5-8), and may you greet whatever comes with joyful cries of “Abba, Father.”
