Out of the Office

Sadly, I must be out of the office this morning in order to be with one of my parishioners as she prepares for surgery. But just to offer a little something to ponder, here’s a thought that I encountered while researching my sermon for this coming Sunday, which focuses on heaven’s promise of a redeemed creation:

“A Christian is not someone who expects to spend forever in heaven there. A Christian is someone who anticipates spending forever here, in a new heaven that comes to earth. The goal isn’t escaping this world but making this world the kind of place God can come to. And God is remaking us into the kind of people who can do this kind of work.”

Rob Bell, Velvet Elvis (Zondervan, 2005), p. 150.

May we be thus remade today.
